Aimed at motivating customers to participate in environmental initiatives and to reduce the use of plastic bags at supermarkets, Grupo Éxito changed the design, the colors and the information on its plastic bags. The new bags have information on the type of waste they may be used for and their weight resistance.
Furthermore, the Company promotes reusable bags among its customers by selling the bags at an affordable price (COP 1,250 + 500 loyalty program points). In 2011 customers redeemed more than 400,000 reusable bags. By using one reusable bag, 15 plastic bags are saved.
Mi Planeta Éxito: Each time a customer redeems 5,000 points; Grupo Éxito plants a tree in his or her name, therefore giving customers a chance to compensate their carbon fingerprint. In 2011 Grupo Éxito planted 70,000 trees.
